Hello, I am PBAEhero, this guide is a culmination of countless hours spent exploring Midgard, finding mobs, and pbaeing them. Essentially I am going to lay out the absolute fastest spots (while maintaining a relative degree of safety) to Pet Pull PBAE at. To those of you not familar with this tactic I have a somewhat detailed guide on it currently floating around the VN boards, however I will try and elaborate on specific tactics for each camp I list, thought dont be suprised if they dont vary much Pet Pull aint rocket science.
Before I begin though Im gonna put down a few side notes.
All of these camps I have personally done, however I did them with varying group make up (If I havnt done the camp and the info I have is word of mouth from guildies I will make a note of it). These are just a guideline for what you should be hunting, its up to you to decide at what level, however I will still outline what I think the average group will be able to handle.
Pet pull groups dieing can easily be summed up into one problem, the pet dieing, this is almost alwaysl player error, which is good because it means its easily prevented with an educated group.
What happens when the pet dies is that all the mobs stacked and aggroed on the pet all choose a new target, when you have 6+ mobs stacked on the pet (which you usually do) this becomes a very serious problem, let me try and point out what usually causes the pets death, so you can be sure to prevent it.
1.Healer takes too long to cast AE stun. What happens here is the healer is not concious of inc mobs, they are stacked and beating on the pet for a long time before he realizes whats going on and casts stun. The pet dies before stun lands, from this point 2 things can happen. Either the healer got stun off before the mobs spread out too far, and you can nuke and kill them without much trouble, the other thing that can happen is all the mobs aggro group members before stun lands, this means the mobs are too spread out to nuke effectively even if your healer isnt aggroed and could recast stun. In this situation you have 2 options.
1.Healer uses insta heal(or group heal) to draw aggro from all mobs to himself, this gives the healer enough aggro to hold the mobs attention while the SM’s nuke.
2.If the healer isnt getting beat on everyone can run on top of each other, this will stack the mobs so the healer can restun, then SM’s can nuke.
2.SM pulls too many mobs, this is easily prevented by knowing how big the aggro radius is, and how many BAF, knowing these an experienced pullers can pretty much know how many mobs will be coming on every pull. I like to keep pulls below 10 if mobs are red+. Anything lower then red and your fine with 12-15 if you have 4 SM’s. Though this is a bit of a moot point as there arent many camps with mobs below purple where you can realistically get 12-15 every pull, but still its good to plan ahead.
There is a 8 target cap on the number of mobs AE stun can affect in a single cast, this doesnt mean you cant pull bigger then 8, it just means that you need to be aware that however many you have more then 8 will start swinging at the first SM to nuke. The advantage of having 3-4 SM’s though is that the one getting hit will be protected by PBT, and the ones still able to cast will make short work of the remaining mobs.
There is a very little known fact about resist rates. Pretty much everyone knows about the code that reduces a mob defense when there are multiple tanks hitting it, this code applies to spell resists as well however its a little different. From testing (and getting vague but helpful responses from CSR’s) I have figured out (though I dont take credit for the discovery Im sure someone else figured it out first) that spell resist rates when grouped are primarily a function of group size, however spec level still matters a great deal when it comes to AE stun. This means a couple of things:
1.Smaller groups are going to have a harder time stunning mobs. (PBAE DD resist rate has never been a issue for me as long as you fight low purple or below con mobs)
2.Smaller groups for the most part should have their healer have higher pac spec relative to their level.
3.Smaller groups have to be much more careful when deciding where to hunt, this doesnt mean small groups arent effective, they are, however you have to be aware of what your healer is capable of reliably landing AE stun on. A good rule to follow is that in a group of 4+ anything below high red is fine.
Never try and share spawn with a group that was at the camp previous to you. You will be pulling so much faster and such larger pulls that its simply rude to even suggest that they should be forced to let you pull with them. However if your at a point in the level gap where this is the only usable spot then I recommend asking the group already there if they would mind sharing the spawn with you, however point out to them that you will be hogging 80%+ of the spawn.
The term “on center” means that your standing inside the mob when your casting PBAE.
Pop refers to mobs spawning.
The highest level SM in the group is the puller ALWAYS, no exceptions, if he doesnt know how to pull correctly teach him. This should be the only SM with a pet summoned, and the pet should always be fully buffed, this is so important that if you dont have enough buffs for the entire group the healer needs to drop his own to get pet fully buffed.
From now on Im going to refer to this SM as P, short for puller.
There is a couple “features” of the Spiritmasters pets that are essential to Pet Pull groups:
1.When it comes to aggro, the pet is in their own group, all aggro, all bafs, will all target the pet and stack themselves perfectly attacking it.
2.Spiritmasters may notice that the range at which they can send the pet in to attack a target is pitifully low, however there is a huge upside to this, when the SM is out of range to give the pet defensive orders and then the pet is put on passive mode they begin to move at horse speed back towards the SM.
3.Pets dont lose speed buffs because of range, ever, however the code has been changed and getting hit will cause the pet to lose speed until the next pulse.
The speed of xp in pet pull groups is essentially dependant on 3 factors:
1.Pop Rate of Mobs
2.Number of Nukers
3.Size of Pulls
Im going to assume for all these spots that you have at least the following members:
1 Healer with at least 2/3rds spec Pac.
2 SM’s will Full Suppression spec.
1 Character with a speed buff(Skald is preferable however you healer putting minor points into aug or using the runies speed works)
1 Shaman with 2/3rds spec Aug.
I use the term “full group” very loosely. What I mean when I say a full group is that all assignments are filled so essentially you have
2 Full Suppression Spiritmasters
1 Pac Healer
1 Supp Runemaster
1 Mend/Aug Shaman
I will use the term “pet group” to describe what most of you think of as a full group, which entails:
4 Full Suppression Spiritmaster’s
1 Full Suppression Runemaster
1 Pac Healer
1 Full Battlesongs Skald (Leftovers in Weapon)
1 Mend/Aug Shaman (Either 2/3rds Mend 1/3 Aug or go 50/50 split, I personally prefer shammys with higher aug for maximum durability of pet)
If your running a PvE only group, then you have the option of replacing the skald (not reccomended) with another supp runemaster if you want a higher level of safety or another supp SM if your really interested in absolutely mind boggling damage. By staggering the time that the runies cast PBT, you can effectively make the refresh time twice as fast, let me illustrate how this is done:
2 Runies both have 6 second PBT. Runie 1 starts casting it, the second Runie must time it so that he finishes casting it 3 seconds after the first runie did. Woila you now have 3 second PBT, which is essentially complete immunity from most melee damage.
Levels 1-7: Nothing special you can do here, get a high level healer/shammy to help speed up the process.
Level 8-10:Silverscale Drakelings in East Svealand. Absolutely a great camp. Drakelings are caster mobs, they have EXTREMELY low hps, for the most part 2 casts of the level 8 Pbae will kill them on center. When I do this camp I have everyone camp just behind the road, on the other side of the Silverscales. P should have the pet swing at 2 seperate mobs, with a large group the pull should be at least 4 mobs, hopefully more like 6-8 though because of CFH.
A warning to large groups that are ripping through spawn, dont leave when you demolish the camp, wait a minute or two, for the most part pop rate is extremely fast, not to mention that if the whole camp is gone when mob pop is initiated then a whole camp worth of mobs will pop. For pet groups you will want to rotate the Silverscales and the Envy Drakelings, envys are opposite silvers on the other side of the road in the trees.
Pull Size:2-8
Loot:Crap
Danger Level: Low unless pet dies because of rare chain nuking from the drakes.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 20-30 Minutes
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 30-40 Minutes
Summary:Smaller group is somewhat faster because of low con of mobs.
Levels 10-14:Newer Sections of Nisses Lair. You can roam the whole lower level until 12. At 12 you can move to Hnakis room because you will start being able to land stun/PBAE on him. Be careful of roaming aggro and once you get past the well room be careful of pet pulling because you will start pulling extra mobs through the walls.
Pull Size:2-6
Danger Level:Medium
Loot:Crap
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 120-240 Minutes
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 90-180 Minutes
Summary:Overall a decent camp, however theres not much choice at this level.
Levels 14-16:Bloodfelegs in West Svealand. Leaving from Huginfell its the multiple house camp before you get to Raumarik. Have the group camp so your facing the door of the log cabin style house and you will be to the left of the circular house. This spot is 100% aggro free.
This is the first camp where you will get a taste of what is to come with Pet Pull groups, the pop rate is good, the mobs are oj/red with a few low purples, pulling is a breeze as it should be and if your camped back as far as you should be the Windcallers(Nuker mobs) will come on the pull just like the others. However if a Windcaller decides to stand back and start chain nuking either you or the pet someone is gonna have to nail it with an insta, I like having this being the skalds assignment however your healer can do it too.
Pull Size:2-8
Danger Level:Low-Medium, Windcallers chain nuking you can be a problem but they dont stop it from being the best camp at this level.
Loot:Minor
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 60-90 Minutes
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 45-60 Minutes
Summary:The first true pet pull camp, they are never camped which is nice. Overall alot of fun and nice xp.
Levels 16-19:Minor Werewolf Nobles in Askheim(Werewolf Fort) in Myrkwood. To get to the camp spot you want to hug the right hand wall as you enter the fort, 1/4 of the way around the wall stop. This spot has been 100% aggro free for me and its also perfect for pulling from the far house, the close house is a little harder because your going to have to back against the wall in order to get horse speed for pet. There is 1 named in each house, Ove Alfenson in the left house, and Baron Falwur in the right house, however they are almost always the same con as the nobles so they’ve never caused a problem for me.
Pull Size:3-6 (Can be as large as 10 if you pull from far house and close house mobs aggro pet on run home)
Danger Level:Low
Loot:Minor
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 90-120 Minutes
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 60-90 Minutes
Summary:A good camp, no caster mobs, all mobs are within a con level of each other.
Levels 19-24:Cursed Tomb in Gotar. There are 2 rooms worth camping. To get to the lower level room take the center path at the first intersection right when you get in to the dungeon. Its a large 2 story room, I reccomend camping to the right of the ramp on the lower floor. To get to the higher level room make a right at the first intersection, follow it to its end, you will come to a room with a step or two down into it, then 6-10 mobs standing against the walls. You want to camp everyone on the steps as standing farther back you will aggro roaming mobs in the hallway.
Pull Size:3-10
Danger Level:Medium (Watch out for roaming aggro in the hallways.)
Loot:Decent
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 240-300 Minutes
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 180-240 Minutes
Summary:Most of the mobs being weak to spirit speeds up killing speed alot, outcamping the lower room is not hard with a pet group so rotating between the 2 aforementioned rooms isnt a bad idea.
24-26:Hallway in Darkness Falls Right after Entrance: Do the plated fiends. I like to camp in a corner, this elminates you aggroing high level mob trains that chase people up to exit. With more then 2 SM’s these guys drop like butter.
26-34:Hallway in Darkness Falls Right before X Roads. You want the lilispawns, there in a long tall hallway just after the ramp down to the cross roads. Ive never actually took an exact count but when they have all popped I would guess there is a good 30-35 of them up in the alcoves, added with the good pop rate of DF this is all the spawn you need.
There is one problem with these mobs, they hit HARD when you start the camp at 26, by the time you hit 30+ it isnt nearly as bad though. If your running a pet group you can get by without having PBT here, though you should have it because of the larger group size, with 4 SM’s these guys drop just as fast as all other mobs, however with a full group you either need the 10 sec PBT runies get at 26 supp or your going to need a healer with 23+ pac.
If you have been running pickup groups so far, you have probably neglected having a skald, if so dont make that mistake here, your really going to want skald speed to have the pet outrun those mobs. To those of your worried about stealthers from enemy realms, here is an experience I had with them at this camp spot.
I was running a pet group, Mid owned DF and we were all getting close to dinging 32. I go out to pull, had about 6 stacked and as soon as the healer AE stunned I saw a purple Briton Myrmidion in Infiltrator epic pop next to the stack of mobs. Apparently this infil thought it would be funny to gank us as we were pulling, well obviously he wasnt very intelligent as any experienced player would know that during a pull is the worst time to attack a PBAE group. So what happened to the poor infil? Well to put it simply we tore him to shreds along with the mobs in the duration of that one stun.
Pull Size:4-10
Danger Level:Low to Medium
Loot:Good cash and alot of emerald seals. Racked up about 400g personally in the 8 hours we spent here, not bad for a lowbie camp spot.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 10-12 Hours
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 8-10 Hours
Summary:A great camp for this level, only real downside is DF has to be open.
Alternate spots for 26-34 If DF is closed regularly on your server:
Undead Camp in Yggdra: This camp is good. I reccomend you being on your toes as your group should be able to handle 1 lone 50 stealther, but more then 1-2 50’s and its pretty much run or get wiped. The pop rate is decent here, however theres not alot of good choice at this level.
Varulvhamn in Skona Ravine: Doing the loop until 30(The first couple entrance rooms down the ramp to the first bridge room then back round again) is an option until you can do the lord room. We went to lord room at 28 and resists were too high so we did loop for 2 levels and at 30 lord room was good xp. However Varu lacks that really awesome pop rate of DF.
Werewolf Bridge City next to Varu:This can be good xp until mid 30’s because of the large camp size, however I dont reccomend doing it with less then 3 sm’s because pulls can be very large.
As this is the revised version of the guide Id like to make an amend, alot of people find Svarts too hard at 34. I personally didnt but its simply a matter of different people having different style and different experiences, if this is the case I suggest going to Pyrotasms in Musp.
Levels 34-38:Pyrotasms in Muspelheim. There are two camps of them up on a hill at about 40k,30k, near the fire giant castle. They spawn quickly, are weak to spirit and come in 3-4’s. You can do double pulls to bring up xp as it can drop a bit with a pet group at around 36.
Pull Size:3-6
Danger Level:Low
Loot:Caster cloth, Enkindled stuff, moneys not too bad.
Recommended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 9-10 Hours
Recommended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 6-8 Hours
Summary:Overall a nice camp to do during the mid 30’s if your looking for a low stress xp experience (unlike Malmo )
Levels 34-41:Svaratalf Bloodbinders and Infiltrators In Malmohus. You want the larger(but they are lower con) camp with the houses, there is another camp with a single tent with the same mobs however they are 50+, which is too say to high for you at your current level. Simply put the only place to camp here is on the bottom of the hill facing the houses, its been aggro free for me every time Ive done this camp. These guys are weak to spirit and they pop just as fast as any mobs in Malmo so xp is really great.
Be warned if you camp here for 7 levels as I suggest your going to ruin your faction with Svarts, if this a problem for you and would rather have an easier time navigating Malmo in the future, then I reccomend doing the lowbie Drakulv camp. (Missionaries I believe their called, never done the camp personally as Svarts are better xp for the level) Preferably you want P to have bad faction with Svarts when your doing this camp for larger pulls.
Pull Size:3-8
Danger Level:Low
Loot:Good, some very nice caster drops if your not using SC’d equipment.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 10-11 Hours
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 8-9 Hours
Summary:A good camp, watch out for the faction hit from the massive svart kills. 8sec PBT is highly reccomended as these guys will pop casters for 300+ a hit. The bloodbound armor and the diamond staffs arent too shabby either. Repop rate is great. You can stay here till 42-43 getting good xp if hags are still to hard at 41.
Levels 41-45:Hagbui Thanes and Zerkers in Vanern Swamp. There are 2 camps of these guys, the camp spot you want is located at roughly 10k, 40k /loc. This camp is absolutely amazing, in my opinion it is the second fastest xp in Midgard. You want to stand at the edge of the water directly facing the farthest right house. Hagbuis are very weak to spirit damage so the level 41 PBAE hits for 5-600 a cast, and hagbuis have roughly 3000 hp so you do the math.
Pulling is very simple here, send pet in to attack a mob at the right house, as soon as those mobs are aggroed send pet to left shanty, the SM should be backed up just into the beginning of the water by the time all mobs are aggroed and you can hit passive. Most of the time hag thanes wont nuke the pet, however when they do be aware that it hits for 400ish on level 50’s with high resists, so its doing a good amount more to the pet, dont worry about it, just get those mobs stunned as soon as their stacked on the pet and you will be fine.
The pop rate here is the best in Midgard next to Malmo. It takes a 45+ pet group to outcamp the spawn. If your running a small group be warned that hags will patrol down to the waters edge if you arent pulling them fast enough, so be careful when you go afk. If for some reason sh*t hits the fan and its time to run, dont bother trying to swim across the lake, hags will run you down, instead hug the shoreline and run up all the way past Jotuns, by this time they should have given up.
If your running a full group, then this is it for you, this is the last camp you’l ever need to do, as for 5 or less people this is great xp all the way to 50. However post 45 you will want to pull both houses of zerks and thanes if you havnt been.
Pull Size:3-12
Danger Level:Medium
Loot:Good cash, items are mostly crap.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: 12-14 Hours
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 10-12 Hours
Summary:Absolutely amazing xp, awesome rerop rate and large camp size, add in the weak to spirit and this is the #1 choice for these levels. Thanes nuke hard so be aware. This is also the #1 P lvling spot in Mid, I got my shammy here from 1-40 in 1 day 3 hours /played. That was with a group of 5:36 Skald, 50 SM(me),46 SM,49 Healer,Shaman. My shaman started at 5 when the others were the levels I just listed, everyone but the skald (and shammy) hit 50, the skald got to 45.
Levels 45-50:Chtonic Knights,Mutilators,Inquisitors,Umbrals behind the Gatekeeper in Darkness Falls. After much debate about whether this spot was pet pullable it has been shown that it IS possible, and the xp is amazing. Right after the door where the gatekeeper spawns there is a little alcove on the right. I prefer pulling from the lower level. As you can see in my signature there is a pic of a 275 MILLION xp pull I did here. Yes thats right. For those of you wondering thats almost .2 of a bubble at level 49. The pull was done without any active RA’s or Healer Instas. The diamond seals are also amazing, in one paticular session at 49 the entire group pulled in over 800 seals in 2.5 hours. Thats a plat per person not counting the cash drops.
This camp is not for the inexperienced, these mobs all pop bubble on a regular basis and they will 2-3 shot SM’s. Landing stun is iffy, your skald has to taunt fast here, I reccomend that he brings a 2.2 speed wep. Fortunatley its easy to pick out the ones that resist stun . This camp is not doable without a 7-8 person group because you simply wont be able to land Stun/PBAE.
Pull Size:3-6
Danger Level:Intense
Loot:Massive seals/Cash.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: N/A
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 15-24 Hours
Summary:AMAZING experience and loot, alot of fun, especially if Alb/Hib takes DF while your camping here.
Levels 45-50:Drakulv Disciples/Executioners/Protectors at Dragon Lair in Malmo. Simply put the fastest xp in the game, bar none(kinda). A word of warning to first timers, this is the ABSOLUTE hardest camp you could ever do with a single pet group. For those of you not familar with the lair this place is usually pulled by a clusterfuc! of 30-40 people.
To pull here with a pet group you NEED 4 sm’s and you NEED 6 sec PBT, no exceptions, just not feasible to pull here and live without them. Until you become experienced at pet pulling here I reccomend that P sends pet into aggro radius of ONE disciple, as soon as one is aggroed put on passive, if the pet only aggroed one you will get 4, if pet aggros 2 seperate non BAFing mobs expect 8. Pulling here takes alot of skill, dont get all hissy pissy at the lead SM if he gets you guys wiped multiple times because of aggroing 15+ protectors, simply have some patience until he gets the hang of it. To those of you wondering the trick to pulling well is to know how many mobs are in the aggro radius of the pet, knowing this dont worry about trying to get 8 every pull, settle for smaller as some times they will be situated such that you cant get a safe large pull. I dont reccomend pulling the guard side as you will simply get too many mobs for 1 pet group to handle reliably.
The xp here is the best you will ever get(kinda), so be happy with it, you will come close to cap on every kill, you should be pulling at a fast pace, and your getting 4+ every time, so its not gonna get any better then this(without having DF). If you need help I reccomend grabbing a couple more SM’s and forming 2 SM balanced groups, xp will still be great but it will be safer. Dont let me freak you out though lair is very pullable for one pet group 45+(47+ is “safe”), so if your group hasnt been having trouble earlier, you probably wont have trouble now.
Pull Size:4-20
Danger Level:High
Loot:Salvage.
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Full Group: N/A
Recomended Time to Complete Levels with Pet Group: 15-24 Hours
Summary:An excellent camp, very hard to do well however payoff is worth it.
Seeing as how this is a revised version Id like to add that I have recently finished leveling my 3rd SM using almost all of the aforementioned camps. His /played at 50 was 4 days/22 hours/34 minutes. He did no questing prior to 50 and spent extremely minimal time in the BG’s/RvR.
